Googles Mobile App Voice Search

l

Has anyone been able to pull up a contact using google's new voice app?

Today the Apple app store launched googles latest offering for the I-phone.  A slick voice activated interface to search the web, maps, images ect directly by talking into the phone using plain english.

Now what has me the most confused is that currently you do not seem able to voice search your contacts,  if you type your search, contacts as well as other types of searches are entered, but as to the voice functionality I have not seen it pull up any contacts yet.

In doing a little homework on this article, I noticed that on the official video, released last week on googles site they do not show any contacts comming up using voice search either, but again show the typed search returning contact names.

All in all well done google!

note to self; beg for voice search of contacts via the google blog.

Passive Solar Water Wall and Daylighting System

This system not only heats but provides very soft daylighting of my living room and dinning room.

This is the Same system we built for MIT's Solar Decathlon house. It is installed in Framingham MA and cuts about almost 20-25% off of my heating costs for my 1300 square foot home.

This system which is patented is made up of Aerogel as an external glazing insulation and water as a thermal mass.

Passive solar water wall

This is a passive solar wall system that I am designing and building. It works like a trombe wall but is see through. The thermal mass is made up of 4" deep water cells so that the water is heated by the sun and then distributes the heat to the home slowly.

The home shown is in Middleboro MA and will have The five walls shown as well as a geothermal heat pump for a total energy cost of around 750$ per year for heating and cooling.

Cheers

Dan

Update May 2009 the finished home can be seen by clicking here!

Pilot vs Mechanic Humor

After every flight, pilots complete a gripe sheet which conveys to the mechanics, problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The form is a piece of paper that the pilot completes and then the mechanics read and correct the problem. They then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken and the pilot reviews the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humour.
Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems submitted by pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers.

P = The problem logged by the pilot.
S = The solution and action taken by the engineers.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except autoland very rough.
S: Autoland not installed on this aircraft.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.

P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 fpm descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: DME volume unbelievably loud. (DME = Distance Measuring Equipment)
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

P: Friction-locks cause throttle-levers to stick.
S: That's what they're there for.

P: IFF inoperative. (IFF = Identification – Friend or Foe)
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with words.

P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.

Have a look.

That One Guy announces Fall tour

If you haven't heard of "That one guy" aka Mike Silverman, make it your personal journey to find out more about him.

A rare artist in every form you can imagine, Mike literally creates his own music from the ground up. He is a one man band with a pipe a string a boot and a saw.

Don't believe me check out his videos on his website

Listen to what others have said;

“Has the makings of an international pop icon. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? That 1 Guy knows…”
Max Sidman
The Synthesis

“That 1 guys tunes are ‘eargasms’ lingering sublimely in your subconscious long after the show ends.”
“All we as an audience could do was sit rapt, mouths gaping, and witness this amazing spectacle”
Sylvia W. Chan
SF Bay Guardian

“When That 1 Guy is in town, his funky bass-n-drum grooves are so bombastic they rattle china cabinets and dissolve kidney stones well into the next zip code.”
Judah Gold
Relix Magazine

“Like a one-man band plucked from the pages of Dr. Seuss, That 1 Guy delivers earthshaking future funk from ”the magic pipe” to accompany his madcap lyrics about turbo snails, meat storms, and weasel pot pies."
J.G.
Bass Player Magazine

“Necessity is the mother of invention. But in the case of Mike Silverman’s slamming, futuristic funk act, That 1 Guy, the normal rules of biology just don’t apply.”
Andrew Gilbert
Billboard/Express

“That 1 Guy is one of the most prolific and insanely genius musicians we’ve met in quite some time. With a rap sheet a mile long, and a reputation for turning out live shows where ever he plays, this virtuoso is a class act all the way.”

It is 78 degrees outside and 81 in the house! At 9pm I told Kat it was time for bed. She informed me that not only did she want to wear her hat to bed but that I should " taka my picture Papa" Sooo....

I put her up on the table and the poses began. I just wonder if everyone thinks that their child is this cute.

I love you Kat
